CBP to increase user fees (From American Shipper)

Starting Oct. 1, the MPF minimum will increase from $26.22 to $26.79, while the MPF maximum will rise from $508.70 to $519.76, CBP said. Other CBP user fees that will change in fiscal year 2020 include informal entry or release (class code 311) ($2.14), surcharge for manual entry or release ($3.21) and dutiable mail feel (class code 496) ($5.89).  Other fee increases should not directly affect importers.  For more info, please go to

Carriers cracking down on misdeclared shipments (From Loadstar)

Carriers are cracking down on rogue shippers by threatening significant financial penalties for misdeclared shipments, following a series of vessel fires. Evergreen was first out of the gates announcing fines, ranging from $4,000 to $35,000, for misdeclarations (see below), with Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL following suit. TT Club risk management director Peregrine Storrs-Fox told The Loadstar: “We welcome such initiatives, following a spate of fires and growing concerns about cargo packing. Hapag-Lloyd, which suffered as misdeclared goods caused a high-profile fire aboard its vessel Yantian Express earlier this year, said it would impose a $15,000 fine per misdeclared box, and OOCL has announced enhanced checks and a hazardous cargo misdeclaration fee.  For more info, please go to

Big cuts in ocean service due to China’s Golden Week (From American Shipper)

The two largest container shipping alliances outlined service cuts for the first week of October due to the closure of China’s factories during the nation’s Golden Week celebration.  So far, the alliances have cut nine weekly sailings from Asia to the North America West Coast, four to the East Coast and two to the Gulf Coast.
