Lufthansa Cargo increases Airfreight Surcharge to 0.55 USD per kg

The sum of cost components in our airfreight surcharge has increased in the past weeks. Consequently, Lufthansa Cargo is increasing its Airfreight Surcharge, effective July 15th, 2024, from 0.50 to 0.55 USD per kg chargeable freight weight. Please note, the latest acceptance time (LAT) of the booked/confirmed flight, not the AWB issue date, determines the applicable Airfreight Surcharge.

Increased CBP enforcement on forced labor laws

We keep hearing from CBP that they continue to increase their enforcement efforts on forced labor from goods made wholly or in part in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).  Sandler Travis and Rosenberg reported this week that CBP is assuming all products made in this region “are made with forced labor and are therefore excluded from entry into the U.S. Even companies not importing directly from China may have goods detained if the materials used to produce those goods in a second country are tied at any level to the XUAR or specific entities or commodities associated with forced labor in China.”  We STRONGLY urge you to take proactive steps to insure your imported products do not contain ANY components made in this region of China, and DOCUMENT these steps!

Import Inspection Fees to See Huge Increase (From Sandler Travis and Rosenberg)

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has announced a final rule that will significantly increase its Agricultural Quarantine and Inspection program user fees starting Oct. 1. APHIS and U.S. Customs and Border Protection jointly administer the AQI program, which assures that cargo and passenger baggage entering the U.S. is inspected for plant pests and potential sources of animal diseases that could affect U.S. agriculture, trade, and commerce. Forwarders and shippers brace for Q4 hike in air cargo rates (From Aircargonews)

Airlines are looking ahead to air cargo’s fourth quarter peak season to decide how best to maximise returns from capacity out of Asia as spot rates are predicted to go sky high.

With a backdrop of more demand and less capacity, industry analyst Xeneta has warned that shippers and forwarders seeking capacity during the fourth quarter may find themselves “at the mercy of the market”, especially if they looking to move shipments out of Asia Pacific.

Peak season surcharges and major increases in spot rates are expected, said Niall van de Wouw, chief airfreight officer at Xeneta. “There’s a consensus it will be a hot Q4 for air cargo in many Asian markets.”  For more info, please go to https://www.aircargonews.net/data/forwarders-and-shippers-brace-for-q4-hike-in-air-cargo-rates/
